Royal Armouries Museum website wins Silver at the W3 awards

25 November 2008

The Royal Armouries Museum new-look website has caught the eye of the International Academy of the Visual Arts (IAVA).

Cimex Media – who designed the website on the Royal Armouries behalf – won a Silver Award at the W3 awards, which honour creative excellence on the web.

The W3 is sanctioned and judged by the IAVA, an invitation-only body consisting of top-tier professionals from a “Who’s Who” of acclaimed media, interactive, advertising, and marketing firms.

The website is a major promotional tool in publicising the museum’s remit as home to the nation’s collection of arms, armour and artillery – as well as highlighting its vibrant programme of events.

The Royal Armouries has sites in Leeds; Fort Nelson in Hampshire; and within the Tower of London, and runs a colourful mix of historically-based events, children’s activities, educational programmes, and major exhibitions.

Museum Director Peter Armstrong said

“This is the first award that a Royal Armouries website has won and it is a tribute to the creative skills and vision of those at Cimex Media. It is also a tribute to the vision, hard work and dedication of museum staff, and our web manager Stuart Carrington, who all contribute to the content. Our website is a collaborative effort, and not just the work of one department.”

“We know that growing numbers of our visitors use the website for information about the organisation and it’s events, so it’s vital that we have a first-class site.”
