Longbows

From prehistory bows were used to hunt game, indeed in some countries they are still used.

However, in England, where the longbow was such an important weapon of the armies of the Middle Ages, its use was restricted to the noble classes.

Ordinary people, who were required by law to practise in its use for war, were strictly forbidden to hunt with it.

Biggest bore in the world!

The largest bore gun ever built, fired a 3 feet diameter cast iron ball weighing around 1 tonne, containing 215kg (400lbs) of gunpowder to a range of 2.4 kilometres (1.5 miles). It was designed by Robert Mallett and is on display at Fort Nelson.
