Art Gallery
For many centuries, guns were royal and national status symbols. They were expensive to make; and even including some decoration in the design did not add greatly to the final cost.
But sometimes an especially splendid gun was required for propaganda or decorative purposes; some of which are on display here.
Artillery either formed the subject, or was included, in works of art. For example, visitors can see an English tapestry that shows an early vertical gun boring machine and paintings in which artillery features.
