How strong is your Longbow?
This session looks at the materials used in the manufacture of a longbow. We will consider the forces involved when the bow is prepared and the energy transfer as the arrow starts to move.
We will focus on the properties of materials and how we can scientifically compare them. Using a tensile strength testing machine we will demonstrate the forces involved and consider how we could investigate this back at school.
Further we can look at the development of body armour from mail worn by the Normans to that worn in modern day combat and how materials have changed. This covers Forces and motion and Materials and their properties.
- We generally offer two sessions a day each with a maximum of 35 students. A session will last from one hour to an hour and half.
- Our sessions are £7 per student under 16 years old, with one adult free per ten students.
